KLIA T2 to host Malaysia’s first ultra-fast EV charger

Malaysia’s first airport ultra-fast EV charging station at KLIA T2 marks a milestone in green mobility, with Huawei as technology provider

SEPANG: Malaysia’s first airport ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station is set to be developed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (KLIA T2), marking a significant milestone in the country’s green mobility infrastructure.

Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Powerlink Asia Sdn Bhd and GM Auto EV Sdn Bhd, in announcing the collaboration today, said Huawei will be the technology provider, Powerlink Asia the station owner, and GM Auto EV the operator.

Selangor State Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony said the project marks the beginning of a series of EV charging developments in Selangor.

“If this project is sustainable in Malaysia, in Selangor, and in Southeast Asia, I am very sure we can roll out this model not only to the rest of Southeast Asia but also to every part of the world in the near future,” he said.

Also present at the ceremony were Hong Kong Web3.0 Standardisation Association president Dr Li Ming, Powerlink Asia co-founder Ethan Chen, and Terminal Operations director Jimmy Neo.

Meanwhile, Chen said the project involves an investment of approximately HK$5 million (RM2.7 million), fully funded by Hong Kong-based capital.

He said the investment reflects a shared commitment between Hong Kong and Malaysia to advance green transformation initiatives.

“We want Hong Kong and Malaysia to work together in building a green transformation,” he told reporters after the groundbreaking ceremony.

Set to open at the end of July 2026, the charging station, located in the KLIA T2 car park, will be equipped with 12 charging points using Huawei’s FusionCharge liquid-cooled ultra-fast DC chargers and energy storage systems, and will be available to the public.
