Deputy minister says libraries can be second homes for families, building reading discipline, creativity and positive values in children
SHAH ALAM: Libraries can be made into second homes for families to build discipline in reading, creativity and positive values in children, Deputy National Unity Minister K Saraswathy said.
Parents have an important role in nurturing their children and making libraries places for reading, discussion and instilling a love of writing, she added.
This indirectly strengthens familial bonds through mutually beneficial activities.
“Encourage children to visit libraries more often as it will not only expand their minds but also unite families through reading, discussions and appreciation of values,” she said.
She stated that the experience of visiting libraries in person gives a deeper impact as children can learn while appreciating the surroundings.
Saraswathy was speaking at the launch of ‘Amanda Rescues The Dino Egg’, a book written by nine-year-old Aayushi Yogeswaran.
The launch was held in conjunction with the Selangor International Book Festival (SIBF) 2025, celebrating the young author’s achievement.
She added that libraries can help build discipline in reading, boost creativity and provide room for children to cultivate an interest in writing.
This expands their knowledge for the future.
“Every book children read becomes part of their life experience and knowledge that forms their thinking and personality in the future,” she said.
“Libraries are not just a place of learning but an area to foster close familial ties and cultivate a consistent reading habit.”
‘Amanda Rescues The Dino Egg’ is the third book written by Aayushi, who began writing at age seven.
The book aims to inspire children to write and appreciate values of bravery, responsibility and purity.
It also stresses important values in life by showing children can achieve great results with support, motivation and proper opportunities. – Bernama
