Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek announces 98% teacher placement rate with 53,000 teachers appointed since 2022 to address shortages
NIBONG TEBAL: The MADANI Government has achieved a teacher placement rate exceeding 98% nationwide according to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
She stated that less than 2% of teaching positions remain vacant following the appointment of 53,000 teachers since 2022.
“This reflects our commitment to ensuring that teacher placements are carried out diligently to address shortages,” Fadhlina told reporters after attending the MADANI Adopted School handover ceremony.
The minister emphasized that teacher placements will continue promptly whenever vacancies occur to prevent schools from facing staffing shortages.
Regarding newly appointed teachers failing to report for duty, Fadhlina described the issue as not serious given the small numbers involved.
She confirmed the Education Ministry is gathering information to understand why some teachers have not reported for duty.
“We need some time to gather all the information,” she said, adding that late registration remains acceptable as schools urgently need these teachers.
Media reports yesterday indicated seven teachers recruited through the Sarawak Special Teacher Recruitment had resigned while 51 others had yet to report for duty.
Fadhlina pledged to address the underlying factors preventing teachers from reporting to their assigned schools. – Bernama
