Johor MB says electricity and water supply for residents is secure, with sufficient capacity and new infrastructure planned to support JS-SEZ growth.
JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor government has pledged that large-scale development in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) will not compromise residents’ access to electricity and water.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said all strategic investments, including data centres, are subject to rigorous technical assessments to protect existing public supplies.
He stated the state has held planning meetings with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Ranhill SAJ to ensure utility security.
“TNB has reported that electricity supply in the JS-SEZ is sufficient and under control,” Onn Hafiz said in a Facebook post.
As of December 2025, installed electricity capacity in the zone was 3,885 MVA against a current demand of about 1,272 MW, representing a 72.76% utilisation rate.
For long-term preparedness, TNB has planned a phased grid development involving four approved Transmission Main Intakes with 630 MVA capacity and nine more with 1,620 MVA.
On water supply, Onn Hafiz said the allocated capacity for the JS-SEZ area until January 2026 is 1,488 million litres per day (MLD).
Current production is approximately 1,261 MLD, leaving a reserve of about 227 MLD or 15%.
He added that a RM1.02 billion rezoning project has been approved to improve the treated water system, adding 260 MLD of capacity in Iskandar Puteri and Sedenak.
The state is also planning and implementing five new Water Treatment Plants and Riverside Water Reservoir projects in phases with relevant agencies.
These projects will provide over 1,100 MLD of new capacity, supporting growth until 2035.
“These projects will not only ensure sufficient water supply but also support the state’s growth,” he said.
The overall aim is to ensure supply remains adequate for residents while supporting long-term industrial development.
