A missing fisherman’s last act was cooking prawns for his family, his mother reveals as his body is found after a days-long search in Batu Pahat.
BATU PAHAT: The prawn dish he caught and fried for his family last Friday is now their final cherished memory of fisherman Mohd Saiful Azli Ahmad.
His mother, Khatijah Rahindi, 74, said her 45-year-old son took great pride in preparing prawns in various ways for his relatives.
She said she never imagined their lunch that day would be their last meeting before he went to check his traps in Sungai Dulang.
“After that, we made every effort, including reciting Surah Yasin and praying together as a family until midnight,” she said at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital today.
Khatijah added they are grateful his body was found this morning after he was reported missing.
The victim’s sister, Nur Syaza Lina Ahmad, said she could only utter “Allahuakbar” when his body was discovered in Sungai Sarang Burung.
She had visited the search area daily since Saturday for updates on the operation for her brother and another missing fisherman.
“I am grateful that my brother was found, as various challenges were faced throughout the search operations,” she said.
Nur Syaza Lina added her brother’s remains will be buried at the Sungai Tongkang Muslim Cemetery by tonight.
Batu Pahat police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said search efforts for the other missing fisherman, Mohd Fadzli Misran, 41, are ongoing.
