NRD assures that the new MyKad transition, starting June, will not affect government aid programmes like SARA and BUDI95
PUTRAJAYA: The transition and replacement process for the new-structure MyKad, beginning in June, will not disrupt the redemption of government aid programmes which use MyKad, such as Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95).
The National Registration Department (NRD) said it would ensure that the list of existing aid recipients in the system remains intact, and that no eligible recipient would be left out during the transition process.
“The department has established close cooperation with various ministries and agencies responsible for distributing aid, to ensure the integrity of the data shared remains smooth and intact.
“The migration of information will take place automatically within the central database system, thereby ensuring that assistance will continue to reach eligible recipients,” the NRD said in a statement today.
The statement was issued in response to concerns raised by certain parties regarding possible technical disruptions or the omission of names from the list of aid recipients, following the launch of the new-structure MyKad.
According to the department, the new security features on the new-structure MyKad will further strengthen the identity verification process for aid recipients, while supporting the existing ecosystem used for the distribution of subsidies and assistance.
“The NRD’s main focus is to enhance the security of citizens’ identities, and not make it difficult for the public to receive government aid,” it said.
The public is advised not to be misled by rumours or false information, claiming that assistance will be stopped if the card is not replaced immediately.
The replacement process will be carried out in phases, and detailed information on the application procedures will be announced in the near future.

On May 7, NRD director-general Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias was reported as saying that the new MyKad would be equipped with 53 security features, compared with 23 features on the existing MyKad.
He said the security features include laser engraving, ultraviolet elements, holograms, guilloche patterns, microtext, quick response (QR) codes for enforcement purposes and a chip with enhanced encryption technology.
