Penang has fully recovered from floods while seven other states continue to battle rising waters, with Kelantan, Kedah, Perlis, Perak and Terengganu all reporting increased evacuee numbers.
KUALA LUMPUR: Penang has fully recovered from recent flooding, but seven other states remain affected with several recording increased evacuee numbers.
Kelantan, Kedah, Perlis, Perak and Terengganu all saw rising flood victim counts, while Selangor reported a slight decrease and Pahang’s situation remained unchanged.
In Penang, the last temporary relief centre at SK Permatang Pasir closed after all eight evacuees returned home.
Kelantan’s evacuee count rose to 10,578 people from 4,016 families housed across 63 relief centres in nine districts.
Several major rivers in Kelantan exceeded danger levels, with Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang recording 9.31 metres against the 9m danger threshold.
Perlis saw evacuees increase to 6,370 people with the opening of an additional relief centre across affected areas including Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar.
In Perak, flood victims rose to 4,739 people from 1,469 families with Manjung district recording the highest number at 1,830 evacuees.
Kedah’s flood situation worsened with 3,101 victims from 1,058 families as Pokok Sena became the newest affected district.
Nine rivers in Kedah exceeded danger levels, including Sungai Anak Bukit at 3.37 metres and Sungai Padang Terap at 4.55 metres.
Terengganu experienced a significant surge from 153 to 2,525 evacuees following continuous rain, with Marang district worst affected at 1,603 people.
Selangor showed improvement with evacuees decreasing to 2,359 people from 612 families as four relief centres closed.
Pahang maintained 19 evacuees from eight families at the Dato Omar Kuala Medang Multipurpose Hall in Lipis.
