Penang’s deputy chief minister visits India to boost economic cooperation, focusing on semiconductors, deeptech, and investment opportunities.
NEW DELHI: Penang has discussed strengthening trade, technology, and investment cooperation with India during a visit by its deputy chief minister.
Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo met with India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, to explore deeper economic engagement.
“Exchanged views on strengthening trade linkages, industrial cooperation, and investment opportunities,” Prasada said in a social media post.
The visit began in Bengaluru, where Jagdeep met with senior officials from the state government of Karnataka.
Discussions there focused on potential cooperation in technology, education, science parks and infrastructure development.
Karnataka’s technology department said both sides agreed to identify collaboration in semiconductors, deeptech, and space applications.
They also aim to cooperate on smart cities and skills development for long-term mutual benefit.
During his stay, Jagdeep also toured the campuses of Dr Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University and Sri Sairam College of Engineering.
His official visit to India runs from January 4 to 13.
The deputy chief minister will subsequently spend five days on a private trip to Amritsar in the state of Punjab.
