Power supply at Kayu Ara Flats in Petaling Jaya is fully restored after a fire damaged the main switchboard, with repairs funded by the local assemblywoman’s office.
PETALING JAYA: Power supply to Kayu Ara Flats has been fully restored following serious damage to the building’s main switchboard caused by a fire in the electrical room.
Bandar Utama assemblywoman Jamaliah Jamaluddin confirmed the resolution, stating the repair was completed through official allocations from her constituency office in cooperation with local authorities.
Jamaliah, who also chairs the Selangor Public Health and Environment Committee, clarified that the disruption was not due to a failure by Tenaga Nasional Berhad but was caused by a burnt component within the privately-owned building’s internal distribution system.
“The damage caused a total power outage and disrupted the water supply as the pump motor could not operate,” she explained in a Facebook post, noting the building is a stratified property managed by a Joint Management Body (JMB).
She was informed that the main switchboard had not undergone maintenance since 2007, prompting the JMB to appoint a contractor for inspection and repairs while requesting financial assistance.
The total repair cost amounted to RM25,000, with the JMB covering RM5,000 and the remaining RM20,000 borne by Jamaliah’s constituency office to assist affected residents.
Responding to claims of delayed works, Jamaliah stated the project was implemented under a minor project allocation requiring standard procedures before execution.
Due to the urgency of the situation, the standard process which normally takes two to four weeks was shortened to just two working days.
She added that she personally contacted relevant parties and instructed her officers to coordinate with the JMB to ensure the issue was resolved as quickly as possible.
