Domestic Trade Ministry warns Ramadan bazaar traders to display price tags or face action, with enforcement patrols monitoring for profiteering.
SABAK BERNAM: Ramadan bazaar traders have been reminded to comply with trading regulations, including displaying price tags, or risk facing stern action.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said failing to display price tags constitutes an offence under the law and should not be taken lightly.
He added that enforcement teams will conduct patrols to monitor profiteering elements as well as traders’ compliance with the requirement.
“We hope those visiting Ramadan bazaars can help channel information if there are traders who do not display price tags,” he told reporters after launching the Ihsan Food Bank initiative.
“Our commitment is that any issue related to pricing will be followed up within 24 hours.”
Meanwhile, he said the government had established a Supply Stabilisation Committee last year.
The committee is chaired by the secretary-general of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry as a proactive approach to resolve supply-related issues, particularly during festive periods.
“The committee involves cross-ministerial cooperation, including the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry as well as the Department of Veterinary Services, to ensure adequate supply when demand increases,” he said.
“We will continue to ensure that supply remains sufficient not only ahead of Ramadan and Aidilfitri but throughout the year to prevent prices from escalating.”
