In a statement, Anwar said Malaysia also welcomed the announcement that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be signed in the coming days to formalise efforts to de-escalate tensions between the two nations.
He commended the mediation efforts that helped bring both parties to the negotiating table, particularly the role played by Pakistan in facilitating dialogue.
“The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping must now be treated as a matter of the highest urgency,” Anwar said.
He stated that the strategic waterway remains a critical artery for global energy supplies and international trade, warning that any prolonged disruption would have far-reaching consequences.
“Prolonged disruption would serve no one,” he added.
Anwar urged all parties involved to act in good faith and move swiftly to translate the understanding into a durable and lasting peace settlement.
He also called on external actors to exercise restraint during what he described as a delicate period in diplomatic efforts.
“At this delicate moment, all parties and external actors must refrain from any action that could derail diplomacy and renew hostilities,” he said.
Reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to peace, Anwar said the country stands ready to support efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting resolution.
He also called on the international community to maintain support for the ongoing diplomatic process and help sustain the momentum towards peace.
“Malaysia stands ready to support efforts towards a just and lasting peace, and calls on the international community to sustain this momentum,” he said.
