Sabah deputy chief minister proposes extended loan moratorium for disaster-hit MSMEs

Sabah deputy chief minister urges KUSKOP to continue loan repayment moratoriums for entrepreneurs affected by disasters to support business continuity.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick has called for the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) to continue its loan repayment moratorium policy to aid entrepreneurs impacted by disasters.

He stated this initiative aligns with state government efforts to keep micro, small, and medium enterprises competitive amid unforeseen challenges.

“Previously, financing agencies under KUSKOP implemented a policy of granting moratoriums or loan repayment flexibility, including payment deferments of up to a maximum of six months for affected entrepreneurs,” Ewon said.

He added that he would seek confirmation from KUSKOP on the current status of this policy.

Ewon also proposed maintaining a previously established Joint Committee with KUSKOP to ensure more effective coordination of entrepreneurship development programs.

He emphasised the committee’s importance for addressing issues related to calamities that directly impact business continuity.
