A Seremban eatery has been ordered closed for 14 days after allegedly washing leftover food for reuse, with authorities issuing a stern warning on hygiene
SEREMBAN: A food premises has been ordered shut for 14 days after allegedly washing leftover food to be recooked and resold.
The Negeri Sembilan State Health Department (JKNNS) issued the closure order under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983, effective from yesterday.
A compound notice was also issued under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
The department stated it views hygiene and food safety issues seriously. “The public, especially owners, operators and food handlers, are required to ensure food safety aspects are maintained,” it said.
It warned that neglecting hygiene and food safety could lead to food poisoning incidents.
JKNNS advised the public to always prioritise food safety by practising “notice and choose” when selecting eateries.
It also recommended the “look, smell, taste” method as the easiest step to avoid food poisoning.
The case went viral on Facebook yesterday after a user uploaded a video and pictures.
The footage purportedly showed a shop worker washing leftover food like chicken and meat for reuse the following day.
The department said enforcement officers will conduct a re-inspection on the third day to see if corrective actions have been taken.
