Two earthquakes struck the Philippines’ Mindanao region within two hours but posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
KUALA LUMPUR: Two moderate earthquakes struck the Mindanao region in the Philippines within a span of two hours today, but posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
In a Facebook post, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the latest quake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, occurred at 7.22 pm.
The epicentre was detected at a depth of 48 kilometres (km), about 112 km southeast of Koronadal City, Philippines.
Earlier, a moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale was recorded at 5.17 pm at a depth of 10 km, with its epicentre located 171 km northwest of the Talaud Islands, Indonesia.
So far, 15 people have been reported killed and at least 134 others injured following a 7.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao at 7.37 am today.
