Online registration for Year One 2027 opens Feb 15 to March 31, 2026 for children born in 2020 and 2021, as six-year-old entry becomes voluntary.
KUALA LUMPUR: Online registration for Year One students for the 2027 academic session will open from February 15 to March 31, 2026.
Education director-general Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad (pic) said registration must be done via the Ministry of Education Integrated System (MOEIS) at https://idme.moe.gov.my.
The registration is open to children of Malaysian citizens in two age cohorts.
The six-year-old (5+) cohort includes children born between January 2 and December 31, 2021.
The seven-year-old (6+) cohort includes children born between January 2, 2020 and January 1, 2021.
Mohd Azam said the move aligns with the government’s decision to allow six-year-old children to enter Year One voluntarily starting in 2027.
“This is on a voluntary basis and without the need to take a screening test,” he said in a statement.
He advised parents and guardians to register an account on the Identity Management System (idMe) and update personal information.
Applications must be submitted through MOEIS within the stipulated period to ensure a smooth process.
Further information can be found on the official MOE portal, or State and District Education Office websites.
Mohd Azam said the initiative is a progressive move by the MADANI Government to ensure child development and well-being.
“It ensures they are not left behind in education,” he added.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the policy change when launching the National Education Plan 2026-2035.
He stated that starting next year, six-year-old children can enrol in Year One, but this is not mandatory and is up to parents.
