UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh says he will follow the decisions of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusoh regarding his state posts.
MELAKA: UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh says he will abide by the decisions of UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh regarding his current positions.
He stated this was because both leaders had selected him to contest as a Melaka state assemblyman and to serve as the state executive councillor for Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security.
“The authority of the Honourable Chief Minister of Melaka lies with him to choose me as an Exco member, and therefore I must comply,” he told reporters outside the Melaka Court Mediation Centre.
He added that the party president also had authority as the individual who chose him to represent UMNO in the state election.
Muhamad Akmal said he needed to obtain the consent and views of both individuals before announcing any decision.
He was attending a mediation process for a defamation suit filed against him by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
In a Facebook post, Muhamad Akmal said he had conveyed his intentions and thoughts to Ab Rauf at the Chief Minister’s Office.
He said Ab Rauf introduced him to UMNO’s struggle during his student leader days and taught him about leadership.
Media previously reported that Muhamad Akmal hinted at stepping down after his call for UMNO to withdraw from the Unity Government drew a negative reaction from Ahmad Zahid.
