Barisan Nasional refrained from attacking other parties during Negeri Sembilan polls, says deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan.
REMBAU: Barisan Nasional (BN) has refrained from attacking or disparaging any party since campaigning began for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, its deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.
Instead, he said the party has focused on conveying its message to voters and seeking their support rather than making personal attacks.
Mohamad, who is also UMNO deputy president, told reporters this after attending a programme with members of the Taman Kelab Tuanku Polling District Centre (PDM) here today.
Commenting on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s reminder, as reported by the media today, that members of the federal government should not use their positions to attack fellow government partners while campaigning, Mohamad said BN had remained focused on its own campaign.
He also urged voters not to be misled by slander or content spread through fake social media accounts during the campaign period.
“I urge voters not to fall for slander. There are all sorts of things being spread, including cartoons, WhatsApp messages and comments on social media through fake accounts created to sow discord among the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohamad reiterated that BN’s understanding with Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the state election was not a political alliance but an electoral strategy to strengthen the party’s position based on tactical considerations.
Mohamad, who is also the BN candidate for the Rantau state seat, said BN’s decision not to contest several constituencies was based on previous election results, which showed those areas were not BN strongholds.
Early voting for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election is set for July 28, while polling day will be on Aug 1.
