Early voting for the Kinabatangan and Lamag by-elections records an 89.42% turnout among police personnel, with polling day set for Saturday
KINABATANGAN: The early voter turnout for the Kinabatangan parliamentary by-election reached 89.42% by 3 pm today.
According to the Election Commission, 169 police personnel had cast their ballots within that period.
For the concurrent Lamag state by-election, 169 police personnel, representing 89.89% of eligible early voters, had also voted.
The early voting process was conducted at the Teratak Kinabatangan District Police Headquarters.
A total of 196 police personnel were eligible, with 189 voting in person and seven via post.
The Kinabatangan by-election is a three-cornered contest involving Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar of Barisan Nasional, Datuk Saddi Abdul Rahman of Warisan and independent candidate Goldam Hamid.
The Lamag state by-election is a straight fight between Mohd Ismail Ayob of BN and Mazliwati Abdul Malek of Warisan.
Both by-elections were called following the death of incumbent Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin on 5 December last year.
The Kinabatangan parliamentary constituency has 48,722 registered voters across three state seats.
The Lamag constituency alone has 13,899 registered voters.
The EC has set Saturday as polling day for both by-elections.
