A leadership crisis in Negeri Sembilan has left four state executive council positions vacant after 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen withdrew support for the state government.
SEREMBAN: There are four vacancies in the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council (Exco), following the move by 14 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen to withdraw support for the state government.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said that further decisions regarding Pertang assemblyman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, along with three other Exco members, will be made later.
“At this point, I have not made any decision. I will continue to administer and lead the state government as usual, until there are any changes,” he said at a press conference here, today.
Senior Exco member Jalaluddin holds two portfolios – Rural Development, Plantations and Commodities, as well as Agriculture, Food Security and Cost of Living, while Senaling assemblyman Datuk Ismail Lasim serves as Exco for Education and Human Capital.
The other two are Palong assemblyman Datuk Mustapha Nagoor, who oversees Youth and Sports Development, and Linggi assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli, who holds the Heritage, Technology, Innovation and Digital portfolio.
Today, all 14 UMNO and BN assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan unanimously withdrew their support and lost confidence in the state government led by Aminuddin, following a leadership crisis.
Jalaluddin, who is also the Negeri Sembilan UMNO liaison committee chairman, said that an official notification on the matter will be submitted to the State Legislative Assembly speaker and secretary, today.
The 15th State Election in 2023 saw the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN coalition form the Negeri Sembilan government, after securing 31 of the 36 state seats, with PH winning 17 seats, BN securing 14 seats, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) holding five seats.
