Negeri Sembilan polls candidates intensify grassroots campaigns

Candidates in Negeri Sembilan ramp up efforts with packed schedules of breakfast meetings and walkabouts to engage voters

SEREMBAN: Candidates contesting the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election intensified their campaigns today, with many beginning the second day of the campaign period by having breakfast with residents and conducting walkabouts to engage voters in their respective constituencies.

With 12 days of campaigning remaining before polling day, several candidates have scheduled up to nine programmes a day to maximise their outreach to voters.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who is contesting the Linggi state seat, began his day by performing the Subuh prayer with congregants at Masjid Jamek Pasir Panjang.

The Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman later joined residents for breakfast before conducting walkabouts in Pasir Panjang town, Taman Setia, Taman Kekatong, Rumah Rakyat Telok Pelandok and Kampung Telok Pelandok.

He also attended a meet-and-greet session with members of the Indian community.

Aminuddin, who is also Negeri Sembilan PKR chairman and a PKR vice-president, said the walkabouts provided an opportunity to meet voters personally and listen to their concerns and aspirations.

“Every encounter strengthens my resolve to continue serving the people and delivering development that benefits everyone.

“Insya Allah, with continued support and trust, we will move forward together to build a better future for the people of Linggi and Negeri Sembilan as a whole,” said the Port Dickson Member of Parliament.

Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, who is defending the Chennah state seat, began his campaign with a walkabout at the Seremban Central Market before attending a state election dinner programme in the evening.

PH candidate for the Seri Menanti seat, Kamarul Ariffin Wafa, had eight programmes lined up, including meeting voters at the Pekan Ahad market and around Tanjong Ipoh, participating in a gotong-royong (community clean-up) at Kampung Panglang Hulu, and attending a Jualan Rahmah event at the Terachi Cultural Village shop.

PH candidate for the Serting seat, Yaacob Mahmood, also adopted a grassroots approach by having breakfast and mingling with voters in Felda Raja Alias 3 and at business premises in Bandar Seri Jempol.

“This informal programme allows the candidate to engage directly with the community, listen to their views, and exchange ideas on local issues and the needs of residents in a friendly atmosphere,” he said.

On the Barisan Nasional (BN) side, incumbent Rantau assemblyman and BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, popularly known as “Tok Mat”, spent time with residents at the BN Polling District Centre (PDM) in Taman Kelab Tuanku, Mambau.

Negeri Sembilan UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias began his campaign by attending the Pertang constituency youth sepak takraw tournament before visiting the Orang Asli community in Kampung Utara Putra later in the day.

The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 5, with the Election Commission (EC) setting Aug 1 as polling day and July 28 for early voting.

A total of 889,490 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the state election, comprising 867,151 ordinary voters, 16,884 military personnel and their spouses, and 5,455 police personnel who will vote early.
