Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim urges new cabinet members to thoroughly understand ministry policies and consult civil servants before making any decisions.
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has issued a stern reminder to new cabinet members to avoid hasty decisions.
He instructed ministers to spend time comprehensively analysing and understanding all aspects of their ministry’s management and policies.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil relayed the Prime Minister’s message following a cabinet meeting.
“Give time to the officers and civil servants to present several opinions first,” Fahmi said.
He added that no specific timeline has been set for new ministers to achieve results, allowing them space to adapt to administrative systems.
On the appointment of Hannah Yeoh as a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Fahmi said it raises no governance issues.
He explained that all her decisions and actions will be monitored and referred to the Prime Minister.
“For ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department, the head is the Prime Minister,” Fahmi stated.
He noted that such ministers normally attend the Post-Cabinet Meeting and their work is overseen by Anwar.
