Sabah flood evacuees rise to 5,860 across five districts

Flood victims in Sabah increase to 5,860 people from 2,067 families, with evacuees housed in 29 relief centres across five districts as waters continue to rise.

KOTA KINABALU: The number of flood victims in Sabah has risen to 5,860 people from 2,067 families as of noon today.

This marks an increase from the 5,532 people from 1,943 families recorded at 8 am.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee secretariat reported a rise in evacuees across three districts.

Tenom remains the worst-hit area with 3,544 people from 1,207 families seeking shelter.

Beaufort follows with 1,462 evacuees from 513 families, while Membakut has 435 people from 171 families.

All evacuees are currently housed at 29 temporary relief centres opened since last Wednesday.

In Sipitang, the number of victims decreased to 340 people from 151 families.

This compares to 421 people from 176 families recorded earlier in the day.

The number of evacuees in Sook remained unchanged at 79 people from 25 families.

Overall, the number of flood-affected areas across the five districts remained at 146 villages.

No casualties or fatalities have been reported so far.
