Sultan Sharafuddin urges public to ignore unfounded predictions and await the official announcement from the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal.
SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has urged the public not to believe baseless speculation regarding the date of Aidilfitri.
In a statement from Istana Alam Shah, His Royal Highness expressed disapproval of unfounded predictions that could cause confusion among Muslims.
“The Sultan emphasises that the official announcement of the Aidilfitri date will only be made by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal on Thursday, March 19, 2026, after obtaining the consent of the Malay Rulers,” the statement said.
He called on all parties to read and understand the Selangor Mufti Department’s statement and the related Friday sermon.
Sultan Sharafuddin stated that Malaysia has its own established method for determining the start of Ramadan and Syawal.
This method, based on *rukyah* and *hisab*, is carried out meticulously by the relevant religious authorities.
His Royal Highness said the process has long been accepted by the Conference of Rulers.
It should not be compared with or influenced by determinations made by other countries.
The Selangor Mufti Department clarified that the start of an Islamic month depends on the sighting of the *hilal* in a particular country.
“Each country has a different *matla’ ru’yah*,” it said.
The Sultan also advised Muslims not to be overly preoccupied with discussions about the Aidilfitri date.
He reminded them not to neglect the last ten nights of Ramadan, a highly valuable period for worship.
