Selangor plans to add 3,000 residential units to its Smart Rental Scheme by 2027, with 1,199 units already acquired benefiting 1,361 families

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Housing and Property Board plans to acquire 3,000 additional residential units for its Smart Rental Scheme by 2027.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said LPHS has so far acquired 1,199 residential units under the scheme since its launch eight years ago.

“This will be implemented through direct purchase from developers or construction of special e-Khas homes known as Idaman and Harapan,” he told the State Legislative Assembly.

He was responding to a question from R. Rajiv regarding the latest developments in the Smart Rental Scheme.

Amirudin revealed that 1,361 families in Selangor have benefited from the initiative since its introduction.

The state government allocates funds annually to increase Smart Rental Scheme units to meet growing demand.

Overall, 239 participants have reached the five-year maximum contract period under the scheme.

Of that number, 68 participants ended their tenancy due to factors including home ownership, workplace relocation, and reaching maximum tenancy period.

The remaining 171 participants have extended their tenancy by up to two additional years.

“This additional period is permitted under certain conditions to help tenants not yet able to purchase their own homes,” Amirudin explained.

The Smart Rental Scheme provides low and middle-income earners who haven’t had Rumah Selangorku ownership opportunities a chance to eventually purchase homes. – Bernama
