Seremban City Council warns traders at Dataran Senawang’s Ramadan bazaar that cleanliness breaches will lead to forfeited deposits as part of strict enforcement measures.
SEREMBAN: Traders at the Dataran Senawang Ramadan bazaar have been sternly reminded to maintain cleanliness or risk losing their security deposits.
Mayor Masri Baharuddin stated that the Seremban City Council (MBS) will take firm action, including forfeiting deposits, against any trader whose stall is found excessively dirty.
He explained that the deposit serves as a guarantee for compliance with all stipulated conditions, particularly those related to hygiene. “If they leave rubbish at their business sites, the deposit will not be refunded,” Masri told reporters after inspecting the bazaar.
He added that all traders are aware this is a mandatory condition in their agreement to ensure the area’s cleanliness is maintained.
Monitoring is conducted every two hours from 6 pm until the 2 am closing time to ensure compliance before cleaning begins. Masri noted that inspections so far have found the bazaar’s cleanliness to be at a satisfactory level.
He reminded both traders and visitors that maintaining city cleanliness is a shared responsibility, not solely that of the local authority. MBS will also collaborate with the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) to enforce the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007.
This includes addressing offences like littering in public places. When asked about trader feedback on MBS managing the bazaar directly, Masri said most responses have been positive.
The council will hold a review session after the festive period to identify shortcomings and plan improvements for future editions. The Dataran Senawang bazaar is one of the largest in Negeri Sembilan, featuring 309 traders and attracting visitors from across districts and neighbouring states.
