The Social Security Organisation’s new round-the-clock coverage scheme is expected to be implemented by the middle of this year, extending protection to workers for accidents outside of working hours.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation’s Lindung 24/7 Scheme is expected to be implemented by mid-year.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said his ministry is taking careful steps to ensure the initiative synchronises with other programmes.
“We need to ensure that the scheme ‘syncs with’ other programmes,” he told reporters after a luncheon with the media.
He confirmed the scheme is still in the planning stage but will definitely be launched this year.
The Dewan Rakyat passed the enabling Employees’ Social Security (Amendment) Bill 2025 in early December last year.
The new scheme aims to provide comprehensive, round-the-clock protection for workers, including outside working hours.
Socso previously stated that unlike previous schemes, Lindung 24/7 will cover accidents that occur outside working hours.
Eligible workers will receive various benefits including medical, temporary disablement, and permanent disablement benefits.
Other benefits include dependants’ benefit, constant attendance allowance, and funeral, rehabilitation, and education benefits.
In a separate statement, Socso reported a successful year for its employment services in 2025.
It said 150,599 out of 208,599 job seekers secured employment through its career carnivals and interview sessions.
These events involved nearly 24,000 employers nationwide.
Socso’s rehabilitation approach has also shown encouraging results.
More than 80% of patients, or 4,817 out of 5,887, were successfully reintegrated into society and returned to work.
Capacity at existing rehabilitation centres in Melaka and Ipoh has now reached between 90 and 95%.
A new Socso Rehabilitation Centre in Ipoh is expected to open this year.
Plans are also underway to build a hospital and rehabilitation centre in Terengganu and Penang.
This year, Socso aims to focus on amending the Employment Insurance System Act 2017.
It also plans to gazette the Gig Workers Act 2025, expected to benefit more than 1.2 million workers.
A feasibility study on a Commuter Scheme to assist nearly 400,000 Malaysians working in Singapore is also planned.
