The Sabah Pan Borneo Highway steering committee will meet more often to resolve construction challenges and ensure timely project completion.
PUTATAN: The Steering Committee for the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway project will hold more frequent meetings to discuss and resolve issues hindering construction progress.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the presence of representatives from key ministries and Sabah agencies enables detailed discussions.
These meetings cover project progress, challenges faced, and proposed solutions to ensure completion meets quality, timeline, and budget specifications.
“Among the key topics discussed were the project’s progress, challenges encountered, and proposed solutions,” Nanta told reporters after a site visit.
He expressed confidence that face-to-face discussions in the committee would resolve construction issues more effectively.
Regarding his working visit, he said such field inspections are routine for the ministry to monitor progress and address on-site issues.
This proactive approach is essential to prevent project delays and ensure no projects are classified as ‘sick’.
The visited work package is part of the strategic Kota Kinabalu Outer Ring Road, a key link connecting Southwest to Northwest Sabah.
This infrastructure is crucial for the state’s primary road network and is expected to have a significant socio-economic impact.
Nanta said it will boost socio-economic growth, stimulate industrial investment, and enhance urban-rural connectivity.
The Pan Borneo Sabah Highway Phase 1 project involves constructing 706 kilometres of road in two main phases.
Phase 1A covers 318 km and is progressing well with an on-site completion rate of 86.53%.
Phase 1B, covering 388 km, is on plan with physical progress currently at 12.27%.
