SWCorp Pahang to intensify LTU garbage patrols for Aidilfitri

SWCorp Pahang will increase patrols and enforcement at known garbage dumping hotspots along the Central Spine Road ahead of the Aidilfitri travel season.

TEMERLOH: The Pahang Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) will intensify monitoring and enforcement at several identified garbage dumping hotspots along the Central Spine Road (LTU) ahead of the Aidilfitri festive season.

Pahang Local Government, Housing, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Mohammad Fakhruddin Mohd Ariff said the move was necessary as the areas had previously faced rubbish dumping issues during the holiday period.

“Authorities such as SWCorp will intensify monitoring and enforcement at locations including the LTU route passing through Kuala Lipis as we expect the road to become a main route for users returning to their hometowns,” he told reporters after an engagement session on the Community Service Order (PKM) for littering offences.

He urged all parties to give special attention to cleanliness at popular public areas like Rest and Relaxation stops, highways, and main roads used by the public.

Mohammad Fakhruddin emphasised that monitoring and enforcement are crucial to ensure public areas remain clean and to prevent pollution problems that could affect the state’s image and road user comfort.

On the PKM programme implemented since January 1, he said it serves as an alternative punishment to educate the public to be more responsible in maintaining environmental cleanliness.

“Littering offences may seem trivial, but their impact is significant as they can affect environmental cleanliness, create breeding grounds for diseases such as dengue, malaria and leptospirosis, as well as cause clogged drains that could lead to flash floods,” he explained.

He revealed that as of March 15, Pahang SWCorp had issued 158 notices for offences involving 140 locals and 18 foreigners.

Of that number, 26 individuals have been brought to court, with 16 cases already decided and the rest awaiting mention dates.
