Three killed in Pulau Tioman crash laid to rest in Muar

Three family members killed in a Pulau Tioman motorcycle crash were laid to rest in Muar after a sombre funeral attended by relatives.

MUAR: Three family members killed in a motorcycle crash on Pulau Tioman last Friday were laid to rest early today. The funeral took place at the Batu 6 Muslim Cemetery in Bakri at 12.15am.

The remains of Mohd Sabri Ja’afar, 42, his wife Siti Aisyah Suhaime, 32, and their five-year-old son Muhammad Yusuf Abdurrahman Mohd Sabri arrived at Surau Ar-Rahman in Bakri at about 10.45pm. Funeral prayers were performed by the congregation and family members before the burial.

A sombre atmosphere surrounded the cemetery as the bodies were interred. The ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including relatives.

The fatal accident occurred at about 4pm last Friday on Jalan Tekek-Juara. The family was believed to be travelling from the Kampung Juara waterfall towards a resort when their motorcycle skidded.

Rompin police chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the incident caused the deaths of all three at the scene. Mohd Sabri was a customer service officer at the National Water Research Institute of Malaysia.

According to the police chief, the motorcycle is believed to have gone out of control on a steep, uneven downhill stretch. It then veered off into the left shoulder of the road.
