Tenaga Nasional Bhd is enhancing grid planning for higher renewable energy integration, focusing on system readiness and modernisation to achieve net-zero by 2050.
KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd is undertaking grid planning enhancements to support higher renewable energy integration. This aligns with Malaysia’s national goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
The effort includes identifying connection points and executing system upgrades. These steps will enable new clean energy projects to be safely and efficiently absorbed into the national grid.
Datuk Ir. Muhamad Nazri Pazil, TNB’s senior chief strategy, regulatory and sustainability officer, detailed the initiatives. He stated TNB is strengthening delivery capability by embedding system readiness into grid planning and operational decisions.
“Ambition is being translated into delivery across the energy system,” he said at the Malaysia Economic Forum 2026. He spoke during a session on “Managing Sustainability and Energy Transition”.
Muhamad Nazri emphasised that delivering the energy transition requires strengthened and adapted systems. Significant effort is directed towards grid reinforcement and modernisation.
This preparation ensures the power system remains reliable and flexible. It must accommodate increasing renewable variability and evolving demand patterns.
“This preparation is critical to safeguarding reliability and affordability as the transition accelerates,” he added. These actions reflect TNB’s role in translating national strategy into practical delivery.
