Malaysia’s unclaimed money pool exceeds RM13 billion, with RM7 billion still held in trust and the rest transferred to government revenue.
TANAH MERAH: The Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia has recorded more than RM13 billion in unclaimed money as at Jan 31 this year.
Accountant General Datuk Zainani Jusoh said RM7 billion remains in the Unclaimed Money Trust Account, while the remainder has been transferred to the Consolidated Revenue Account after a 10-year period.
She clarified that funds transferred to the Consolidated Revenue Account will still be paid if a valid claim is submitted by the owner or their heirs.
Zainani made the announcement after officiating the launch of the MADANI Adopted Village programme by JANM at Kampung Bukit Merah.
She emphasised that the department has never appointed any agents or representatives to claim the money on behalf of claimants.
To facilitate the public, the department organises activities at government programmes and operates a mobile bus that travels across the country.
The KAM programme in Kampung Bukit Merah is a continuation of projects that began in 2024 in Nanga Tebat, Sarawak, and Kampung Minyak Beku in Johor in 2025.
Kampung Bukit Merah in Kelantan was approved as JANM’s KAM for 2026 by the Ministry of Finance and will be upgraded with an allocation of RM500,000.
Zainani said the approved allocation will allow upgrading works to be carried out in a planned and efficient manner.
Discussed projects include improvements to facilities at two local mosques and the purchase of a cabin for the Rukun Tetangga team.
Other planned works are repairs to village roads, drain widening, installation of solar-powered street lights and repairs to water channels.
