VSP app hits 1.7 million users as police push for wider adoption

The Volunteer Smartphone Patrol app has registered 1.7 million users, with police aiming for more to enhance community-led crime prevention and efficient patrols.

BENTONG: The Royal Malaysia Police’s Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application has now registered 1.7 million users nationwide.

Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the department is actively targeting more users to further strengthen crime prevention efforts.

He stated that the growing adoption of the police-developed app provides significant benefits for monitoring and eases operational workloads.

Mohd Yusri highlighted the app’s particular importance during festive seasons like Aidilfitri when many homes are left unoccupied.

“The VSP app enables members of the public to send information directly to the police without having to visit a station or contact the operations room,” he told reporters after a JPJKK programme here.

He explained that users simply provide details like their name, address, period of absence, and contact number for police follow-up.

This information is then forwarded to the District Control Centre or Contingent Control Centre to enable regular patrols in the relevant residential areas.

Mohd Yusri added that the system allows police to organise patrols more efficiently by zone, focusing on identified crime hotspots.

“So far, 1.7 million people have registered nationwide, and we want this number to continue rising because the more people use VSP, the more effective our patrols and monitoring can be,” he said.
