Selangor plans rail industry hub in Hulu Selangor and automotive valley in Serendah, aiming to reduce foreign tech reliance and boost manufacturing
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will develop a Rail Industry Hub in Hulu Selangor to focus on manufacturing train components and maintenance.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative aims to reduce Selangor’s reliance on foreign technology.
“This initiative will involve collaboration with industry players, academia, and experienced rail operators,” he said when presenting the 2026 Selangor Budget.
He noted that companies like SMH Rail have already begun manufacturing locomotives for the MRT network and for export.
Amirudin also announced plans to develop an Automotive Valley in Serendah and Lembah Beringin.
The automotive hub will focus on conventional, hybrid, and electric vehicles.
The location was chosen following Chery’s RM2.2 billion investment to build the Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin.
The industrial park plans to produce up to 300,000 vehicles annually for domestic and export markets.
The area is strategically located near plants of Proton, Perodua, and international companies like Nissan.
The state government will implement policies to develop the entire automotive supply chain through Invest Selangor. – Bernama
