Clocks across Europe move forward one hour this weekend, marking the start of daylight saving time for longer evenings.

BERLIN: Clocks across most of Europe will advance by one hour early on Sunday.

The change occurs at 2am local time, moving to 3am as the continent adopts daylight saving time.

This shift heralds longer evenings and brighter days for the coming months.

The aim is to make better use of daylight during the shorter winter days in the northern hemisphere.

Most European nations, including Germany, will be on Central European Summer Time (CEST).

They will switch back to standard Central European Time (CET) in the autumn on October 25.

In Germany, the signal for the automatic changeover comes from the Federal Institute of Physics and Metrology.

The institute’s experts ensure radio-controlled clocks receive the signal via a long-wave transmitter.
