Iran’s president says the nation seeks a dignified end to the conflict while defending its nuclear rights and standing firm against a “bloodthirsty” enemy.
ISTANBUL: Iran is seeking to end its war with the United States and Israel “with dignity,” according to President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Pezeshkian argued that US President Donald Trump has no right to deprive Tehran of its nuclear rights during remarks reported by the ISNA news agency.
“Trump says Iran should not use its nuclear rights, but does not explain what crime Iran has committed,” the president said while visiting Iran’s Sports and Youth Ministry.
He called for the nation to stand firm against what he described as a “bloodthirsty and brutal enemy.”
The president stated that Iran must manage the current atmosphere to avoid being portrayed as war-mongers, emphasising that “we are defending ourselves.”
The conflict began on Feb 28 when the US and Israel launched a joint offensive against Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with strikes on Israel and other regional countries hosting US assets.
Hostilities have been on hold since April 8 following a two-week ceasefire mediated by Pakistan.
Washington and Tehran held talks in Pakistan last weekend aimed at achieving a lasting peace, with efforts underway to hold another session in Islamabad.
