Hezbollah fired 200 rockets and 20 drones at Israel in its biggest attack yet, coinciding with an Iranian missile strike, causing light injuries and property damage.
MAJD EL-KROUM: The Israeli military has described a massive overnight rocket attack by Hezbollah as the Lebanese group’s largest barrage since the war began.
Military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani told journalists that approximately 200 rockets and 20 drones were fired at towns across Israel on Wednesday night.
Shoshani stated that this coordinated assault was timed to coincide with a simultaneous ballistic missile attack launched from Iran.
He added that Israel’s aerial defence and rapid response resulted in minimal casualties, with only two or three direct hits and a few civilians lightly injured.
The military spokesman confirmed that Israeli forces carried out retaliatory strikes against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut overnight.
An AFP team visited a damaged house in an Arab village near Majd el-Kroum, where a large hole was blown through the living room ceiling.
Homeowner Khalil Khalil said air raid sirens sounded as his family of nine was having coffee after breaking their Ramadan fast.
“We were very lucky, thank God, no one was killed,” Khalil told AFP, explaining a projectile struck as they moved to a safe room, causing only light injuries.
A local civil defence official, who spoke anonymously, suggested the damage may have been caused by a stray Israeli air defence missile.
Shoshani revealed that Hezbollah has now fired more than 1,000 drones, rockets and missiles at Israel over the past 12 days.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday he had ordered the military to prepare for an expansion of operations in Lebanon.
The military later expanded its evacuation order for residents in southern Lebanon, stating it was acting “strongly” in the area.
