Israeli strikes kill three in Gaza despite ceasefire

At least three people killed in Gaza as Israeli attacks continue despite an October ceasefire, with both sides trading blame.

GAZA CITY: Gaza’s civil defence agency said Israeli strikes in the Palestinian territory on Sunday killed at least three people, including a woman.

Despite an October ceasefire, Gaza remains gripped by daily violence as Israeli strikes continue and both the Israeli military and Hamas accuse each other of breaking the truce.

“Three martyrs and several others were injured following attacks by occupation forces in Gaza City and Khan Yunis,” said the agency, which operates as a rescue service under Hamas.

Two men were killed when an Israeli drone fired a missile that “struck a group of civilians” near the Kuwait roundabout in the Zeitun neighbourhood of Gaza City, the territory’s largest urban centre, the agency reported.

Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital confirmed it had received the bodies.

In a separate incident, a woman was killed after being shot by Israeli forces in Khan Yunis, with her body transferred to Nasser hospital, according to the agency.

The Israeli military said it was not aware of any incident involving the death of a woman in Khan Yunis, adding it was looking into reports concerning the deaths of the two men.

The October truce has largely halted the Gaza war that began after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack.

But violence has persisted, with at least 811 Palestinians killed since the truce began, according to Gaza’s health ministry, which is under Hamas authority and whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations.

The Israeli military has reported five soldiers killed in Gaza since the start of the truce.

Media restrictions and limited access in Gaza have prevented AFP from independently verifying casualty figures or freely covering the fighting.
