Macron denies scheduled G7 meeting after Trump posts private message

French President Macron says no G7 summit is scheduled this week, after Trump revealed a message proposing talks on Ukraine and Greenland.

DAVOS: French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Tuesday that no G7 summit is scheduled for this week.

He made the remark after US President Donald Trump posted a private message from Macron proposing a meeting.

“No meeting is scheduled. The French presidency is willing to hold one,” Macron told AFP in Davos.

Trump revealed the message on his Truth Social network earlier that day.

In it, Macron suggested a G7 meeting in Paris on Thursday after the World Economic Forum.

“I can invite the Ukrainians, the Danish, the Syrians and the Russians in the margins,” Macron’s message read.

The message also expressed confusion over US actions regarding Greenland.

Trump is demanding to seize the Arctic island, a sovereign territory of Denmark.

A source close to Macron called Trump’s recent tariff threats “unacceptable and ineffective.”

Trump had threatened 200% tariffs on French wine over a foreign policy dispute.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia had not received any invitation for the proposed talks.

The G7 comprises Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States.
