Prabowo heads to Washington for key talks with Trump

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is set to meet US President Donald Trump to bolster bilateral ties and sign a new trade agreement.

JAKARTA: President Prabowo Subianto departed for Washington on Monday for a working visit to the United States.

He is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump.

The visit aims to strengthen Indonesia-US relations and expand strategic cooperation across various sectors.

It is part of Indonesia’s active diplomatic efforts to fortify its national position amid global geopolitical dynamics.

Accompanying Prabowo were Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

Their delegation took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta.

On the sidelines of the visit, Prabowo is expected to sign the Indonesia-US Agreement on Reciprocal Tariffs with Trump.

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed the plan last week.

Prabowo will also join the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington.

That meeting is scheduled for February 19.
