US President Donald Trump reveals Iran is in talks with Washington, hinting at potential action as a naval fleet moves towards the region.
WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Iran was negotiating with the United States.
He told Fox News that “they are talking to us, and we’ll see if we can do something, otherwise we’ll see what happens”.
Trump added that US allies in the region were not being informed of plans for possible strikes due to security reasons.
“Well, we can’t tell them the plan,” he said, explaining that revealing details could compromise operations.
His comments came as Washington has deployed a naval strike group led by the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier off Iran’s shores.
They also followed a warning from Iran’s army chief against any US military strikes.
Trump has threatened to intervene in Iran following a deadly crackdown on anti-government protests.
