Hannah Yeoh criticises WWC organisers for using child in apology video

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh expresses disappointment over Warzone World Championship organisers using child to apologise for unapproved event.

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh has expressed sadness and regret over the Warzone World Championship organisers allegedly using a child participant to issue an apology to her ministry.

She stated in a social media post that this move was inappropriate and raised questions about the organisers’ accountability.

Hannah emphasised that the event was held without official approval from the Malaysian Commissioner of Sports as required under the Sports Development Act 1997.

“Please do not use children to make such explanations,” she said in her post.

“KBS does not need this young child to apologise.”

She further clarified that the child is not at fault and that the organisers must take responsibility.

Yesterday, the child participant issued a nearly three-minute video apology to Hannah, her deputy Adam Adli Abd Halim, and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

This apology followed an incident that occurred during the WWC tournament press conference recently.

KBS confirmed in a statement last Sunday that the tournament scheduled for December had not received its approval.

The ministry noted that any sports event involving international participation must obtain approval from the Commissioner of Sports under Act 576.

Earlier, a video from the WWC tournament press conference went viral showing two children believed to be participants fighting during the introduction session.

This incident drew negative reactions from social media users who urged authorities to investigate the tournament’s organisation further. – Bernama
