National junior Kong Wei Xiang clinches the U-21 men’s singles title in Ipoh, citing fitness as key ahead of the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championship
NATIONAL junior men’s singles player Kong Wei Xiang claimed the 2026 National Under-21 Championships title today.
The 17-year-old defeated teammate Muhammad Haziq Mohd Najib 15-13, 16-14 at the Perak Badminton Academy.
Wei Xiang said his physical fitness was the deciding factor in his victory.
He focused on maintaining a high tempo and trusted his endurance to give him the edge in long rallies.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to represent the team at (BATC),” he said in a statement.
“I will prepare my best, focusing on strengthening all aspects of my game.”
Wei Xiang will compete at the 2026 Badminton Asia Team Championship in Qingdao, China from Feb 3 to 8.
He will be joined in the singles line-up by Justin Hoh, Eogene Ewe and professional player Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin.
In the women’s singles final, 19-year-old Oo Shan Zi upset top seed and defending champion Lim Zhi Shin.
She secured the title with a 16-14, 15-4 victory.
