Crystal Palace boss Glasner delays contract talks amid hectic schedule

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner puts contract talks on hold due to a packed fixture list, with his current deal set to expire next summer

CRYSTAL PALACE manager Oliver Glasner said talks over a potential new contract are on hold due to the club’s hectic schedule.

The Austrian’s current deal expires at the end of the season, and he continues to be linked with moves to other Premier League clubs.

Palace face a congested run of fixtures, hosting KuPS in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday before a Premier League trip to Leeds just 48 hours later.

They then travel to Arsenal for a League Cup quarter-final next Tuesday.

Glasner said there is currently no time for detailed conversations with chairman Steve Parish because of the demanding calendar.

“When should I talk about my contract?” Glasner said at a press conference on Wednesday.

“We want to do it in a relaxed atmosphere, and right at the moment there is no relaxed atmosphere.”

Sky Sports reported growing expectations that Glasner will let his contract expire, with hopes of securing a job elsewhere.

The 51-year-old led Palace to a historic FA Cup triumph in his first full season last May.

His team currently sits fifth in the Premier League and is well-placed to qualify directly for the Conference League knockout stages.

Glasner intends to name completely different starting line-ups for the matches against KuPS and Leeds due to the short turnaround.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt boss said he has only 16 senior players available and will promote academy prospects.

Attacking midfielder Daichi Kamada faces eight to 10 weeks out with a hamstring injury sustained in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City. – AFP
