JDT thrash Sabah 5-0 to clinch fourth straight FA Cup title

Johor Darul Ta’zim dominated Sabah FC 5-0 at Bukit Jalil to win their fifth FA Cup and fourth consecutive title in the competition

JOHOR DARUL TA’ZIM (JDT) emphatically retained the FA Cup with a commanding 5-0 victory over Sabah FC at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil.

The win marks JDT’s fourth consecutive FA Cup title and their fifth overall since the competition was rebranded in 2013.

JDT opened the scoring aggressively in the eighth minute through Jonathan Silva, who headed home an Oscar Aribas free-kick.

Sabah’s misfortune continued in the 20th minute when defender Rawilson Batuil deflected the ball into his own net.

JDT striker Jairo Da Silva compounded the misery for Sang Badak by netting a third goal just three minutes later.

Sabah thought they had pulled a goal back through Ajdic Mujagic in the 26th minute, but it was disallowed by VAR for offside.

The Southern Tigers entered halftime with a commanding 3-0 lead.

Sabah’s woes deepened after the restart when midfielder Miguel Cifuentes was shown a red card for a foul.

JDT capitalised on their numerical advantage, with Oscar Aribas scoring the fourth goal in the 64th minute.

Manuel Hidalgo then capped a memorable night by scoring the fifth in injury time. – Bernama
