Take a flagship smartphone chipset. Pair it with large memory, generous storage, a specious display, and five cameras. What you will get is a compelling smartphone.
What is surprising is that you can get this smartphone for only RM1,599. This is what Huawei did with the announcement of the Nova 5T.
At a global announcement event held in Kuala Lumpur, Huawei announced that the latest entry in its Nova would be a formidable challenger in the market. Also at the launch to present the phone were country director of consumer business group Huawei Malaysia Bill Liu, and deputy country director of consumer business group Huawei Malaysia Matthew Ng
It will have last year’s flagship processor (the Kirin 980 chipset), 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a 6.26in display with a small cutout for a front-facing camera, and a four-camera array at the back.
Powered by a fast-charging 3750mAH battery and overlaid with Huawei’s own EMUI 9.1 interface, the Nova 5T looks to have a lot of potential.
The processing power would make the Nova 5T capable of running not only any native Android apps and games you can fit in it, but also emulators. The RAM capacity promises a modest level of multitasking and the high storage translates to more pictures, videos and apps.
According to Huawei, the camera array at the back of the phone consists of a 48MP primary camera, a 16MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth camera. All these cameras mean versatility in taking photos and perhaps videos too. Only through testing would we know the full capability of the cameras on this phone.
On the face of the phone are a 32MP camera and a 6.26in All-View Display capable of 2340x1080 pixel resolution. It does not only look good with near a near bezel-less land notch-less design, but the selfie camera reportedly has the potential to be a staple for social media fiends.
Speaking of looks, we return to the rear of the phone. The Huawei Nova 5T comes in three colours: black, crush blue, and the signature colour for this model, midsummer purple. You will have to see these colours first-hand to fully appreciate their uniqueness.
Bonus points to Huawei for including a screen protector a case in every box of Nova 5T as well.
