PENANG: Anticipation mounts as one of the newly acquired Penang ferries prepares to open to the public from December 16th onwards, inaugurating the Penang Bridge Sunset Cruise.

Setting sail from the historic Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda (PRTU) in George Town, this unique cruise promises an unparalleled perspective of the world-renowned architectural marvel, the first Penang Bridge, silhouetted against a captivating sunset backdrop.

“The Penang Bridge Sunset Cruise signifies a significant milestone for Penang’s tourism industry. This unique experience is poised to redefine leisure outings in the region,” Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) CEO Datuk Sasedharan Vasudevan said during the soft launch last week.

He also announced the collaboration between restaurant operator SeaQueen and PPSP. “SeaQueen has chartered the ferry for the Penang Bridge Sunset Cruise Buffet package on weekends.

“We welcome anyone with plans to charter the ferry for private events or activities, with a minimum requirement of 60 passengers.

“Since this is the first time, we are starting without expectations. We hope to have between 80 and 100 trips per year,” Sasedharan said, expressing optimism for the return of previous ferry users.

“The package is only available on weekends from 5pm to 8pm and is limited to 100 pax per cruise. Since this is a new product, we are trying it out first, we do not know how the response will be for this.”

Lai Kong Hooi, the restaurant operator who also owns the SeaQueen restaurant at Straits Quay, prepares halal food onboard the chartered ferries.

“We have a variety of menu options and cater to different palates. However, we typically serve rice with several dishes – including chicken, fish and vegetables, along with local kuih, some fruits and desserts,” he said.

Penang Port’s initiative aims to blend heritage, leisure and gastronomy, presenting a distinctive encounter that intertwines Penang’s captivating scenery and history. The Penang Bridge Sunset Cruise stands poised to offer both locals and tourists an unforgettable journey through this picturesque Penang landscape.

The Penang Bridge Sunset Cruise Buffet package spans three hours, with ticket prices set at RM148 for adults and RM98 for children, encompassing a delightful dinner during the cruise. Those who intend to make reservations may WhatsApp 019-4020299 or 013-3060299.
