NEW YORK CITY-BASED Malaysian indie-pop and R&B singer-songwriter Fig has released her latest single Opposite Day in collaboration with hip hop artiste Yoshi T.
Opposite Day is the lead single from Fig’s upcoming project Fits that is set to release on Nov 8.
Blending indie pop melodies with hip hop rhythms, catchy hooks and vibrant beats, the buoyant track playfully delves into the frustrations of miscommunication and the back-and-forth tension in friendships or relationships, resonating with anyone who has ever found themselves in a love-hate dynamic.
With relatable lyrics that capture the challenges of communication in relationships, the collaboration adds another layer to the track by merging indie and hip hop elements, highlighting the vibrant, cross-genre energy of today's dynamic and inclusive music scene.
Out next month, Fits is an eight-track project that blends Fig’s Feel Again EP with four new songs. Drawing inspiration from the concept of large objects and the idea of scale, the project delves into how we often resort to extreme or consuming behaviours to reconnect with ourselves.
Known for turning everyday experiences into music, Fig brings the DIY spirit in her artistry, as the singer’s self-expression turns everyday activities and emotions into upbeat tunes and sob ballads.
Originally starting her music journey as a teenager who wrote and recorded her songs in the bedroom, Fig, who was born in the Philippines and raised in Singapore, continues to infuse the self-made attitude into her work, writing full-length songs and creating cover artwork, all while directing and editing the music videos that accompany them.
Fig’s growth has not gone unnoticed and with support on Spotify's mood, Jasmine and New Music Friday Malaysia playlists in September 2024, her sound is resonating across the region.
Asian territories such as Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines currently dominate her top 10 streaming markets, signalling a reach that expands far beyond her New York City base and into the vibrant Asian music landscape.
