A HINDU girl named Mehak Kumari has claimed that she was forced to get married and convert to Islam, causing outrage among Hindu and Muslim communities in Pakistan. The girl is now attempting to renounce Islam in court.
Mehak had previously told the court that she had willfully married a man named Ali Raza and stated there was no pressure to convert to Islam. However, she has now retracted that statement, causing a portion of Pakistani’s Muslim community to call for her death as she has insulted Islam.
It is suspected that the 15-year-old Mehak was kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam and marry Ali, drawing anger from the minority Pakistani Hindus.
The lawyers and parents who brought the case to court have suggested that the case is ongoing and the courts want to thoroughly investigate the matter before delivering judgment. Times Of India reports that the next hearing would be on Feb 18.
