THE Hulu Langat District Public Works Department recently installed the first glow-in-the-dark road markings in Malaysia in Semenyih, Selangor (JKR).

These creative markings are located at the intersection of Jalan Sg Lalang B19 and Jalan Sg Tekali B16 in Semenyih.

The Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi was there to inspect the location of the glow in the dark road paint installation.

Since then, images and videos of the road lines that glow in the dark have circulated on social media, including one particularly popular post from the Melaka Daily Facebook page.

Accordingly, the glow-in-the-dark paint used on these road markings is a part of a pilot project in the department’s mission to bring innovation to road engineering, according to a Facebook post by JKR Hulu Langat.

A lot of Malaysians praised the idea in the comments, claiming that since they can see the road markings when there are no lamp posts, it further increases road users’ safety.

Additionally, a local mentioned that he recently drove through the Semenyih road in the dark and rain, and appreciated how the road markings improved his visibility.

Furthermore, a large number of Malaysians who reside in areas without interior street lighting have demanded that glow-in-the-dark road markings be installed across the country.

While, another man from Sabah also requested road markings in his area in the comments section for their safety.

How encouraging is it to see fresh and creative initiatives that improve and lessen traffic accidents in Malaysia. What do you think?
