DUBAI: A Pakistani navy ship has seized narcotics valued at more than $972 million from sailboats in the Arabian Sea.
The Combined Maritime Force (CMF) announced this major drug interdiction in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The Pakistani naval vessel intercepted two different dhow sailing boats within a 48-hour period last week.
Crew members confiscated several tons of crystal methamphetamine along with a smaller quantity of cocaine.
The intercepted vessels were identified as stateless boats with no specified nationality.
Royal Saudi Naval Forces Commodore Fahad Aljoiad described this as one of the most successful narcotics seizures for CMF.
He commands the CMF taskforce responsible for conducting this maritime security operation.
The United States Central Command publicly congratulated the CMF on social media platform X.
The CMF represents a naval partnership involving 47 countries that patrol over 3 million square miles of international waters.
This coalition focuses on disrupting drug and weapon smuggling across some of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. – AFP
